Manchester United has announced plans for a fresh supporter area designed to be welcoming to families at its Old Trafford venue.
The initiative would include a performance area, catering units, drinking establishments and seating for those holding tickets, according to the proposals. The enclosed section would occupy what is currently accessible parking adjacent to the Stretford End stand, accommodating up to 1,300 visitors.
The club has indicated it would be a space for everyone to appreciate, with performances featuring homegrown acts and former players.
The area would feature two drinking outlets, the performance stage and a shop unit constructed from cargo containers finished in team colours; three catering vehicles; and washroom facilities. A large canopy would shade part of the designated space, with seating underneath and additional seating spread throughout the zone.
Access would be regulated, with specific areas for queuing also outlined in the plans. There would also be restrictions on bags, with security personnel available to conduct checks if necessary.
The facility would only operate on days when matches are played, with the club stating it would typically open between three and four hours before the game begins and for two hours after the final whistle for afternoon encounters. Opening times would be shorter for evening fixtures, the club noted.
When there are no games scheduled, the catering vehicles and barriers would be removed, furniture stored under the covered section, and the stage and bar containers secured, according to the plans.
A total of 22 parking spots would be removed to accommodate the new zone, though the club has indicated it already offers more parking than the stadium capacity demands and does not anticipate any significant impact on road traffic.
Planning documents indicated that the development would create a family-oriented venue for food, beverages and entertainment on match days, both before and after the game.
Proposals have been filed with Trafford local authority for consideration and a decision will follow in due course.
