Marcus Rashford has returned to Manchester United after spending a campaign on loan at Barcelona.
Carrick was questioned about whether Rashford had indicated he wished to remain at Old Trafford past the transfer window closure, with the interim manager noting the forward had been training exceptionally hard.
The England international has rejoined the United squad after his temporary stint in Catalonia.
United are still prepared to listen to enquiries for Rashford as the summer transfer window approaches its conclusion, though indications suggest the 28-year-old will be brought back into the first-team picture for the forthcoming season.
Rashford featured for United for the first time since December 2024 during the pre-season friendly against AC Milan at the weekend. He is expected to be part of the matchday squad for the opening Premier League fixture against Hull on Saturday.
When pressed on whether Rashford had discussed remaining at the club, Carrick stated that since Marcus had returned to training alongside Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez in Dublin, it had been evident he had returned in excellent condition.
He is happy playing football, appears fit, sharp and strong, and appears prepared to play. The manager expressed delight with his condition since returning.
Carrick was also questioned about using Rashford centrally during the upcoming campaign. He confirmed the player is capable of operating through the middle and has done so previously.
He noted it may not be his preferred position, but he possesses the ability to play there. The squad possesses attacking options that provide versatility across the forward line, with nearly all of them deployed in varying roles. Having that capability is beneficial for the season.
Rashford managed 14 goals and 14 assists during his time at Barcelona, though the Spanish side decided against activating their £26million purchase option and instead prioritised bringing in Anthony Gordon in a £70million move.
The homegrown United player is tied to a contract worth £325,000 weekly with two years still to run.
