Emery confirms Villa’s conditional purchase of struggling loanee Garnacho

Alejandro Garnacho has found first-team opportunities hard to come by since arriving at Aston Villa from Chelsea on a season-long loan deal this summer.

The Argentina international made the switch to Villa Park in July, with the arrangement including a conditional purchase clause that would make the move permanent.

Garnacho previously spent the majority of his career at Manchester United, rising through the academy ranks before establishing himself in the first team.

However, his final season at Old Trafford proved turbulent.

A breakdown in relations with then-head coach Ruben Amorim resulted in the winger being omitted from the squad for the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur in 2025, a match United lost.

That exclusion ultimately paved the way for his departure.

Chelsea secured the 21-year-old’s signature for a reported fee of £40million last summer, with expectations he would rediscover his best form at Stamford Bridge.

Instead, Garnacho endured a challenging campaign as the London club struggled, ultimately finishing 10th in the Premier League and missing out on European qualification.

He managed only a limited impact during his solitary season in west London.

Since joining Villa, the former United academy graduate has made three substitute appearances without registering a goal or assist.

Manager Unai Emery has publicly backed the player to succeed, stating the club wants to see Garnacho reproduce the form he showed during a strong period at Chelsea last season and an impressive two-year spell at Manchester United previously.

Emery has praised the winger’s application in training and remains patient with his adaptation process.

The Spanish coach indicated that consistency and daily dedication would be crucial as Garnacho works to establish himself in the team ahead of the upcoming fixture against Nottingham Forest.
