Manchester United injury list grows ahead of Brighton Carabao Cup clash

Manchester United are facing a number of fitness issues following their defeat to Manchester City in the latest edition of the Manchester derby.

The club suffered a narrow 1-0 loss in the Premier League encounter, with Erling Haaland’s goal proving decisive.

The goal sparked controversy, with Pro Ref subsequently confirming that an error had occurred in permitting the strike to stand.

The result means United must now refocus ahead of their Carabao Cup campaign, with a third-round tie against Brighton scheduled for Wednesday evening at Old Trafford.

However, several players will be unavailable for the fixture.

Carlos Baleba has yet to make his debut for the club after sustaining an ankle problem during pre-season training prior to completing his transfer to Manchester.

Manager Michael Carrick stated in late August that the midfielder would likely remain absent for approximately three weeks, though it remains unclear whether he will feature before the end of the current week.

Luke Shaw has been absent from United’s last two matches due to an injury that has not been specified in detail.

When speaking to Sky Sports, Carrick indicated that the defender was not yet prepared for selection but was approaching a return to action.

Amad Diallo has also failed to appear for United this campaign after suffering an injury during pre-season preparations.

No update has been provided regarding when the Ivory Coast international might rejoin the matchday squad.

Matthijs de Ligt is progressing toward the end of his recovery from a back complaint that has kept him sidelined since November.

Although the defender has resumed training, Carrick has emphasised that the club are adopting a careful approach to his reintegration.

Manuel Ugarte sustained a significant knee injury during the World Cup and faces an extended period away from the game spanning several months.

A precise return date has not been announced for the Uruguay international.

Tom Heaton sustained a hamstring problem during training sessions.

United have yet to specify the expected duration of the experienced goalkeeper’s absence.
