Marcus Rashford impresses Man United chiefs by mentoring JJ Gabriel and Shea Lacey

The Manchester United forward had been anticipated to depart Old Trafford during the current transfer window, yet the England international appears to be finding his place within the club once more.

Rashford’s conduct during training sessions has reportedly caught the attention of senior figures at United, with sources indicating he has made a strong impression on the hierarchy. The 27-year-old has taken under his wing both JJ Gabriel and Shea Lacey, providing guidance to the rising talents.

Since his last Premier League appearance in December 2024, Rashford has spent loan periods at both Aston Villa and Barcelona. Despite expectations that he would move on permanently this summer, the Catalan side opted against exercising their £26million purchase option.

Although a complete separation had been anticipated, interim manager Michael Carrick has been bringing the player back into the first-team environment. Rashford pulled on a United shirt for the first time in almost two years when he entered the fray as a substitute during their recent friendly defeat to AC Milan.

The Bury-born forward now seems to be embracing his time at Old Trafford, serving as a mentor to various young squad members. According to information from the Daily Mail, Rashford has been specifically nurturing Gabriel, described as a prodigy at the club, and 19-year-old Lacey. The mentorship effort is believed to have made a significant impact on club decision-makers.

Furthermore, indications suggest the likelihood of Rashford remaining with the club continues to grow. Carrick has already conducted extended discussions with the England international, who was given a tour of United’s newly opened £50million training facility.

Rashford has also been reunited with his close companion Youri Tielemans, with whom he bonded during their time together at Villa Park. Former United captain Harry Maguire has publicly expressed his support for Rashford to extend his stay beyond the current transfer window.

Maguire stated that having Rashford in the squad represents a significant asset, noting his exceptional ability and expressing hope that he would remain with the team. The defender mentioned his extensive experience playing alongside and against Rashford, highlighting his potential to strengthen the squad.

Rashford’s strong performances last term secured him a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the recent World Cup tournament. While at the Camp Nou, he contributed 14 goals and 14 assists across 49 matches, with his efforts playing a role in Barcelona clinching La Liga, the first league championship of his professional career.

Sources indicate that Barcelona’s interest in securing Rashford permanently has not been completely abandoned, with the Spanish club’s hierarchy reportedly maintaining contact with his agents despite their summer signings of Karim Adeyemi and Anthony Gordon.

United commence their Premier League season this Saturday with an away fixture against newly promoted Hull City.
