Despite Carrick introducing several substitutes after the break, United failed to trouble Hull during the second period.
Speaking after the match, a frustrated Carrick expressed his disappointment with the result but pointed to positive aspects of his side’s display. Hull operated with a five-man defensive line against United on Saturday, with their manager Sergej Jakirović revealing the tactical approach was designed to counter United’s system. When questioned about potential vulnerabilities against teams employing a back five, Carrick acknowledged the concern while emphasizing his side’s strong recent record. He stated that losing a single match does not indicate fundamental problems with the team’s direction or performance. The United manager conceded his team must find solutions for dealing with different tactical systems but maintained that one defeat should not prompt overreaction.
